Fr. George’s Licensing.  June 13th, 2026

On 13 June St Barnabas’ Limassol welcomed clergy, laity and friends from across Cyprus for the licensing service of the Revd George Vidiakin as the new parish priest.

The joyful occasion was attended by members of the congregation, representatives of churches throughout Cyprus and personal guests who gathered to mark this important moment in the life of the parish and the Diocese.

The service was led by the Rt Revd Sean Semple who licensed Fr George to the cure of souls of the parish. In his sermon Bishop Sean reflected on the calling of Elisha and the theme of Christian discipleship as a response to God’s call. The Bishop emphasised that it always involves trust, commitment and renunciation, and encouraged both priest and congregation to work together in discerning God’s purposes for the future of the parish. He highlighted the unique opportunities for mission and growth in Limassol, urged the parish to deepen its understanding of the Anglican tradition and offered pastoral counsel to Fr George: to pray for his people, visit them, love them and minister with integrity, truthfulness and transparency.

The Bishop’s message was echoed in the address made by Fr George, who expressed his gratitude to Bishop Sean, Archdeacon Paul, the clergy and congregation, and all those who had supported him on his journey to this new ministry. He noted that young families bring stability, consistency and a healthy rhythm to community life, qualities he hopes will also characterise his ministry as parish priest.

Looking to the future, Fr George spoke of his desire to offer prayerful, confident and strategically grounded leadership, while remaining focused on what he believes lies at the heart of priestly ministry: being a ‘people’s vicar’ who is present, approachable and available.

Finally, Fr George observed that Christians are called to become agents of reconciliation through the work of the Holy Spirit, demonstrating the unity that is found in Christ. The service was followed by generous refreshments and friendly conversations.
